Random Thoughts As We Enter A New Decade December 16, 2009

Given the times, why haven’t our elected officials taken a pay cut?

Smokers do have rights; does that include using the street as their ashtray?

Responsibility for ones own actions creates a better working environment and a better world.

Every time you point your finger at someone, three of your fingers are pointing back at you.

When the political discourse changes from shouting to conversation, the world will be a better place.

Attitude is everything!

“Work ethic” is a powerful phrase.

Conversation in place of Email, what a concept!

If twitter is limited to 140 characters, can we do the same with Email?

If all the World’s political, religious, and business leaders were sent to the moon for a few days, would that view of the world change their view of the world?

If newborns have no preconceived ideas of the world and the people in it, what causes bigotry?

The United States constitution begins with the phrase, “We the people…”, not “We the politicians…”.

As we start a new decade, I am reminded of the title of the John Lennon song: “Imagine”

Thank you for all of your comments regarding this blog.  I look forward to continuing in 2010.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season and may you find peace and happiness in the New Year.

Best regards,

Dick

Hi Dick,

Since you asked, I will attempt to answer all of your questions. 🙂

Given the times, why haven’t our elected officials taken a pay cut? > They don’t really make that much in the first place. Look what the CEO of the US gets compared to the CEO of smaller large company. My question back is, can we create incentives for doing a good job. What if they had leveraged salaries, with bonuses based on some kind of performance indicators related to, among other things, their campaign promises?

Smokers do have rights; does that include using the street as their ashtray?
>No. That goes for gum chewers also. If it came down to cases, I’d rather step on a butt.

If Twitter is limited to 140 characters, can we do the same with Email?
>I think we have the technology. We just need the political will. & the wilingnes 2 rd a lot of emails tht luk lik ths.

If all the world’s political, religious, and business leaders were sent to the moon for a few days, would that view of the world change their view of the world?
> Probably not. But at least the rest of us could have some extra fun while their away.

If newborns have no preconceived ideas of the world and the people in it, what causes bigotry?
> Not sure. But you can’t spell bigotry without Big, Try and O. Not sure what that means.

Happy New Year!

Dick,
Wonderful random thoughts! I admire you for putting them in writing and public. We should all get in the habit of doing that and maybe come up with some personal goals – learn to communicate better with less words, watch our body language, and of course Attitude and Work Ethic. If you do smoke, and can’t quit, dispose of your butts properly. Remember your child is always watching what you do and say, and what you do not do, like spend time with them when they ask in that dear little voice – “Mommy come watch Wubsy with me” and you say “Yes” instead of finishing ironing that new bathroom curtain. (That’s from personal experience.)

Dick, great blog post! Wonderful concepts to think about at this time of year. I will fantasize about the politicians’ moon trip while taking Bill Weill’s advice to avoid stepping on ANYTHING on a sidewalk. 😉
